Spend a fantastic day exploring the Canterbury Plains and the village of Arthur’s Pass, the highest settlement in the Southern Alps. You will first join the Tranz Alpine train as far as Arthur’s Pass, with fantastic views as you journey up in to the mountains. You will then meet your guide and take lunch at a historic hotel in the village before heading back to Christchurch by minivan. Along the way you will stop to view the impressive Waimakariri River and its unique braided river system, and the old stagecoach route through Otira Gorge, as well as the interesting geological formations of Cave Stream and Castle Hill. There will be a view short walks along the way and plenty of informative local insight. Lunch in included.
