Kaikoura’s unique offshore geology makes it the ideal playground for a range of wildlife. Giant sperm whales are year-round residents but the bay is also lucky enough to be a seasonal home to humpback whales, orca, pilot whales and occasionally the rare Southern right whale. This two-and-a-half-hour excursion takes you by modern catamaran to look for these magnificent creatures, as well as dolphins, seals and an array of marine birdlife. The boats have comfortable seating inside as well as a large outside viewing deck. You are accompanied by a knowledgeable guide and large screens on the boat show marine wildlife animations accompanied with interesting facts.
