New Zealand is a fantastic country for families, with endless family-friendly activities on offer. However, its impossible to do it all and to avoid lengthy periods of time in the car we recommend sticking to a few locations and making use of domestic flights to get between them. This suggested self-drive itinerary gives you an idea of the places and activities you could pack in to a couple of weeks. There are some great options for self-catering accommodation along the way, which is often easier for a family, however, it would also be possible to do some or all of the itinerary in a motorhome.

3 nights Auckland – 3 nights Rotorua – 2 nights Queenstown – 2 nights Te Anau – 1 night Queenstown
